Trailer, class BE
Class BE lets you tow a trailer with a maximum authorised mass of up to 3,500 kg. Class B or B96 can be enough for some trailers over 750 kg. You must hold a class B licence. The minimum age for class BE is 18.
Stage 2 — basic training
- Basic training: At this stage you learn to handle a car with a trailer — coupling and uncoupling, reversing with a trailer and carrying out safety checks. Training can take place at the driving school, privately or in a combination.
- Individual adaptation: How many lessons you need depends on you and how much you practise privately. What matters is reaching the goal of the stage.
- Mandatory stage assessment: Stage 2 ends with an assessment where you and your instructor decide together whether you are ready for stage 3.
Stage 3 — traffic training
- Traffic training: At stage 3 you learn to drive safely and independently with a car and trailer in varied traffic.
- You learn, among other things, to drive clearly, efficiently and economically, and to assess turning spots, turning methods and the use of a helper.
- Individual adaptation: The number of lessons is adapted to you and how much you practise privately. What matters is reaching the goal of the stage.
- Mandatory stage assessment: Stage 3 ends with an assessment where you and your instructor decide whether you are ready for stage 4.
Stage 4 — final training
- Final training: During stage 4 you become good enough to drive a car with a trailer responsibly and in good interaction with other road users.
- You should be able to choose low-risk ways of driving, help prevent accidents, and be aware of how you can keep improving as a driver even after you get your licence.
- Mandatory load-securing course: A 2-hour course that helps you understand how important it is to secure and mark loads, and teaches you ways to secure a load.
- Mandatory road safety course: A 3-hour course where you develop your driving competence and reflect on your experience of driving a car and trailer.
